In 2006, at about the same time, two new families (who had never met before) move to Lathbury to fulfill their individual dreams - to have smallholdings for rearing animals, have chickens and grow vegetables. Both families believed that the land should be worked to provide food. Fresh flowers in the cutting patches were a wonderful addition.
Over many cups of tea around the kitchen table, and after courses in floristry and flower growing Field Gate Flowers was born.
Today our business includes many acres of tunnels, greenhouses and cutting patches for annuals, perennials, herbs and evergreens.
Our vision, along with a number of other British flower growers, is to re-establish the British flower industry. Unfortunately, in the 1970's, we accepted cheaper imports which have since flooded the market. Today 90 percent of the flowers in the UK are imported. Here at Field gate Flowers we would really like to address this balance.
So, if you like seasonal, beautiful, scented flowers then please buy British.
